One of my favourites passing by. Three pairs visiting the lake during their way up north. The male is stunning and the female is cute, at least in my eyes. :)

Too few? Yes, this is a bad year for birding in my area. Where there usually are lots of birds dotting the water surface I only see a few. One pair of the Northern Shoveler and two pairs of the Wigeon. Not much :(

I wonder if this is the new way of things?

Knipa - Bucephala clangula - Common Goldeneye

First time I have seen this. Goldeneye mating. The male entered the female and then he grabbed her head and lifted it up. Then he turned to the right and rotated them both two full circles before he let go of her. Her head does not look all that great after that treatment. :)  I have no idea if this is common behavior.

You can see it is a female as the spot below the eye is black. Males have a red spot.

It certainly seems like that pair has feelings. Cuddling together before mating. Even if it was only 2 seconds.
What seems to be the female still has winter plumage.

One couple has arrived to Boda Kvarn stream. Last year they did not stay to breed. Will be interesting to see if they stay this season. I hope they will.
